WINE RECOMMENDATIONS

WINE SHOULD BE ENJOYED

Let's stop stressing over finding the perfect bottle.

I'm here to help with recommendations in your

"average person" price ranges.

This Month's Recommendations

NOVEMBER, 2018

Chateau Moncontour Cremant De Loire Brut Rose

Sparkling wines are not cheap to make.  Yet for around $13, this rose gem from the Loire valley can hold up to other higher end sparkling wines or even some Champagnes (see a future blog post of the basics of Champagne).

What do I like about it?  Creamy texture, bright acidity, light strawberry and even some notes of peach.  This won't disappoint at the Thanksgiving table.

~$13

Domaine Moutard - Grand Cuvee Brut Champagne N.V.

This is the real deal for a more affordable Champagne price point.  I know $30 sounds expensive, but a true Champagne requires a great deal of effort, time, equipment, and know-how... which this Moutard shows!

Crisp green apple just like you are eating one fresh from the tree coupled with some biscuit/toast like creaminess.  The tiny bubbles just go on for ages.  Serve cold or perhaps try it around cellar temperature (55 f) for more nuanced flavors.

~$30

Pol Roger - Reserve Brut Champagne N.V.

A royal designation from the Monarchy and James Bond's favorite Champagne... need I say more?

This is a classic house style form Epernay, nutty and stone fruit jump out of the glass.  And some chalk like minerality on the finish.  Quite lovely.  A perfect gift for the wine nerd in your life.

OCTOBER, 2018

Atalaya - Laya 2016

Why do I love Spanish wines so much?  Amazing price to quality... this wine is deep and flavorful yet under $10 which is tough to find in today's wine market.

Dark fruit and spice.  Go buy a case if you can.

~$9

JL Chave - Cotes du Rhone Mon Coeur 2016

This Rhone guru makes many bottlings throughout the region and this one has all of Chave's signature style.  Cherry and sage with the perfect tannic grip and finish.  Will please most crowds.

~$17

Stag's Leap Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Not your father's Napa Cab.  Old world style.  14% abv, yet tastes like a 12.5%.  Oak and vanilla with plenty of blackberry and plum.

Can only imagine this will get better with a few more years of age.

WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?

I took a short period off in 2018 to spend time with my second child who was born in late 2017.  Sorry there are no recommendations during this time
